Junior Cricket

Youth Cricket has been played at Brentwood for many years thanks to the hard work of many club members. Details of the Junior Committee are shown on the "Who's Who's" page of the site.

What We Offer

Alongside a full program of competitive and friendly soft ball and hard ball cricket matches, we offer cricket-based activities and cricket coaching to children and young people from the age of 4 to 18. We run our coaching sessions on a Friday evening for ages 4-13 and a Tuesday evening for ages 14-18. These sessions are open to girls and boys.

At the youngest ages these sessions are mixed, splitting into separate girls and boys training from 8 years of age onwards. We are working hard to develop girls cricket at the club, along with Essex and England Cricket initiatives. If you or your children know any girls who would like to come and join the growth of girls cricket at our club, please get them to contact us at [email protected].

Teams start with U7 soft ball matches playing Terriers’ cricket (everyone gets to bat for 4 overs and everyone bowls). From U11 onwards they will be playing hardball matches only. We play in Central Essex District league and cup competitions against local clubs from Upminster to Maldon. There are also county wide Essex Cricket competitions at U12, U14, U16 and U19 that we compete in.

One of the unique things about cricket is our older juniors (U13 upwards) also have the opportunity to play in one of our six adult Saturday league teams, matched to their skills and ability, and/or our Sunday team. This helps them to develop further and be part of the main club.

In addition to all the leagues and cup games, we arrange many friendly matches. We want all our girls and boys to feel comfortable and enjoy playing in games of cricket, ensuring that everyone is able to play games at a level that is appropriate for them. We provide a kit bag for all teams, up to U11. This will enable everyone to try hard ball cricket without having to commit to the purchase of equipment, apart from an abdominal protector (cricket box). In addition, we will have a second-hand equipment sales during the season.

We have team selection guidelines for all our team managers that are available in the documents section of the website, to provide a consistent and clear approach across the teams. If you have any questions about these guidelines please contact the Colts Team Managers Co-ordinators, Paul ([email protected]) (U12s upwards) & Rob ([email protected]) (U11 and below).

In the off season we also enter teams in the Central Essex District winter indoor league, usually taking place at Shenfield High School or Campion School. We realise this may all seem a bit daunting to new members, but please reach out to any of the committee members at the club on Friday / Tuesday training nights or please contact us at [email protected]. We want to ensure your children are having a great time and enjoying the wonderful game of cricket!

Brentwood CC Juniors feature in many County and District representative teams, and we maintain an honours board to capture individual achievements on the club website.

We encourage as much involvement in the club as possible.  We aim to run barbecues each Friday evening during junior training and we are offer social events throughout the season. In addition, our juniors and their families are always welcome at senior matches.
